There are no official guidelines which can say that what quantity is the right quantity to have food, however, it is important for a person to be aware of the same such that he/she can consume it accordingly. Most of the people do not have an idea as to what an appropriate proportion should look like but it is important to have an idea and consume accordingly.
‘The obvious advantage of using your hands is that you always have them with you,’ says Sian Porter, a consultant dietitian, and spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association.
‘Plus it’s proportional. If you’re a bigger person, you’ll need a bigger portion, but your hands will be bigger so the portion is adapted automatically. Likewise, children need child-size portions, the size of their hands.’
Well, it is not anyone’s fault; the problem is people hardly have an idea about how or what they should eat and even guidance fail to give them complete information.
Fruit and vegetable proportion
The proportion and size of fruit and vegetables are specified i.e. 80g each day for five days. Even though the amount in terms of grams has been stated, but still it is difficult to get an idea about what should be the portion sizes of food one should consume.
It is recommended to use the size of your hand to measure what portion of food should be consumed and which will not impact your health. Hands are considered a favorable option, after all for people who are bigger they will have bigger hands leading to a bigger proportion of food. Hence it seems, it is a good idea to choose your hands to measure a portion of your food.
Vegetables should be consumed with every meal and it should be a couple of them. A handful of any salad leaves should be consumed, so it is good if you buy and consume a pot of salad to stay healthy and fresh throughout the day.
The serving of any meat should be measured with the size of your palm or your hand and not your fingers. The consumption of proteins, however, should be spread throughout the day, such that you can remain energetic and healthy for the whole day.
It can be according to your hand when it laid flat, and the portion size should include fingers. White fishes such as cod; haddock etc. are low in fat and hence can be consumed in larger portions. It has a small amount of omega-3s which seems to be a good source of selenium and is important to keep your immune system fit and is also healthy for hair and nails.
It should be 250gms which can be consumed in three portions. 80g of berries is something which you can easily keep in your hand, so it is a good idea to consume berries this way so that no harm can be done to you.
Consuming broccoli twice for five days is a key to a healthy diet. Thus broccoli can be consumed accordingly or can be evenly distributed throughout the day such that one can have it and also enjoy consuming it.
